Truly Lin (Lin Chunju, 1985) is an interdisciplinary live artist from Taiwan. Initially majoring in medicine, she soon realized that she wanted to explore humanity in a more expressive way and began experimenting with theatrical performances. After graduating, she went to the UK to study theatre directing at East 15 Acting School, where she participated in an exchange program at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow, which sparked her interest in the contemporary developments of Stanislavski’s System.

Since 2014, Lin has been involved in productions as an assistant director and dramaturg in China, while also developing her own work. One of her key projects, Lonely TWOgether (2017-2018), explored text-based improvisation, where she led two separate groups of actors through the same rehearsal structure to create distinct devised pieces. In the final performance, actors were paired with partners from the other group, leading to spontaneous interactions on stage.

The pandemic marked a shift in Lin’s journey, as she immersed herself in the Meisner Technique, which led to the creation of her Active Analysis (AA) approach. This method focuses on evoking reactions through specific terms and symbolic objects. Starting in 2022, Lin has applied AA in various projects to delve into her own subconscious, externalizing them into nuanced emotional landscapes and intrapersonal dynamics. Her latest event, Insightful Conflicts (2024), a forum combined with live performance, shares the discoveries made through this creative exploration.

Lin’s approach taps into both psychological and philosophical insights and connects the personal with the universal. Her performances invite the audience into a reflective space, where they witness and engage with the complexities of existence.
